Client Prep Guide
HOLY MOLY!! IT’S TIME TO GET EXCITED!!! Your shoot is officially booked & it’s happening!!! Here’s some prep instructions for you to rock your shoot. If you’re not the best at prepping (like me!) then just focus on showing up. No matter what, we’ll make it work!
Skin Prep:
Your hair and make up artist will take great care of you! The hair and make up artists I hire are the best of the best (and I don’t say that lightly) but I want to be certain to encourage you to be honest about feedback on the rare occasion there’s something you aren’t in love with. The artists I hire are all super nice and are happy to make any changes you’d like. They really want to make sure you’re happy with how you look.
To prep for the make up artist, it’s best to exfoliate and moisturize your skin the night before or morning of your shoot. Moisturizing sheet masks are very helpful if you have any at home. Arrive with clean skin with no make up. You are welcome to bring your own make up bag with you if there’s something you want to use, but it is not necessary at all.
The hair & make up artists will start by asking you a few questions about what kind of make up you like. It’s totally fine if you’re not sure. They just want to get an idea of how much make up you like to wear. They’re not heavy-handed, so don’t be concerned about being overly done. They will also apply lashes to you unless you have your own lash extensions.
Hair Prep:
Please be sure to arrive with CLEAN, 100% DRY hair. Some clients believe it’s easier to style your hair when it’s a bit dirty, but that is not what the hair and make up artists prefer. Also, be sure to make any hair appointments (touch-ups, cuts) before your shoot if needed.
Nail Prep:
It’s a great idea to schedule or give yourself a mani/pedi the week of your shoot. Avoid arriving with chipped nails. Soft color nails or French manicures are always great, however if it’s your style to have pops of color then feel free. Just keep in mind, the focus should be on you.
Wardrobe Prep:
Please be sure to bring many options to wear - way more than you think we’ll need. It’s great to be able to pick from lots of options. And sometimes something will look amazing in person, but it won’t photograph as well. Many times due to the fabric.
Make sure everything you bring is wrinkle-free and ready to wear. I have a clothing rack that you can hang them on. I suggest brining one pair of heels with you as there’s one shot that looks best with heels. If you don’t have any, I have some in studio that you can use. Or you can opt to go barefoot.
Lingerie of all kinds is great as well as matching bras and panties. You can’t go wrong with anything lace. You can also bring sweaters that fall off your shoulder or anything that you feel beautiful in. Please be sure to bring options with thong backs for the best booty shots ever!
"Should I tip the Hair & Make Up Artist?"
I am often asked if tipping is appropriate for the hair and make up artists. I added the question here to avoid the thought of it popping up at some point during the shoot. I pay the artists well, so tipping is completely optional. I’d guess around 50% of clients end up tipping simply because our artists are insanely talented and everyone loves them. If you do choose to tip, you are more than welcome to via cash or Venmo to the artist directly.
Misc. Prep:
I suggest that you avoid wearing tight undergarments the morning of your shoot (in fact it’s preferred if you don’t wear any!). We want to avoid having lines on your body that will show up in the images. Wear loose clothing the morning of your shoot.
I will have a robe for you to put on when you arrive, however you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
It’s a good idea to make sure you’re hydrated and have eaten before your session.
Nerves are just part of the experience for most people. Try not to give it too much attention…you’ll be shocked at how comfortable you feel 5 minute after we start. Just wait and see!!
